The colorful animated film from 2014 will be continued with The Lego Movie 2. This time, Emmet and Co. must defend themselves against dangerous Duplo opponents.
Emmet and his friends have saved the world, but the condition that everything is great does not last long. Duplo attackers from space invade the Lego Universe and take it for themselves. Five years later, Emmets home is just a wasteland without much color and joy. The invaders destroyed everything faster than they could rebuild. And then, to make matters worse, Lucy is abducted and Emmet has no choice but to embark on a rescue mission.
After the overwhelming success of The Lego Movie - not only at the box office, but also among the critics - it quickly became clear that a sequel would emerge. Ultimately, however, the filmmakers pushed the sequel so far back that in the meantime, the spin-off films The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Ninjago Movie came out and further established the Lego Movie franchise.
The initially planned director Rob Schrab was later replaced by filmmaker Mike Mitchell , who had already released sequels such as Forever Shrek (2010) and Alvin and the Chipmunks 3: Chip Break (2011) and the animated film Trolls (2016) in the cinemas.
